The City of South Haven is getting closer to a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for a grant for the Center Street project. The city council has set a public hearing during its June 17th meeting. City Manager Brian Dissette says the project will run between Williams Street and Michigan Avenue.

“The intent is to rebuild the street in the off-season from Labor Day to Memorial Day,” says Dissette. He says a new driving surface would be put in along with new sidewalks. Dissette says the June 17 public hearing is a formality required by the MEDC.

“Once the public hearing is complete, we can then move in to finalizing our full grant application for the Center Street funding,” says Dissette, adding they have a tentative commitment from the MEDC.

The Center Street project is expected to be the final major project downtown.
