The Michigan Tobacco Quitline is now offering free nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges to those smokers who are trying to kick the habit. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson Lynn Sutfin tells WSJM News many find the extra help is worth pursuing.

“It’s very helpful for some individuals,” Sutfin said. “Obviously, we know that quitting smoking is not an east thing because about 68% of smokers say they want to quit and still haven’t been able to,” Sutfin said.

Sutfin says the offer is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “Tips From Former Smokers” campaign, which features real people who are living with the effects of smoking-related diseases. You can call the quitline now and get up to eight weeks of free nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges through September 30. The number is 1-800-QUIT-NOW.
