Two kayakers are uninjured after they were rescued about a mile southwest of the St. Joseph south pier on Saturday. The Berrien County Marine Unit responded when a 911 call came in shortly after 6:30 p.m. One of the kayaks was taking on water and in danger of sinking. The person in the other kayak had a cell phone and called for help. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says the marine unit retrieved the kayakers while the U.S. Coast Guard transported the capsized kayak to the Coast Guard Station in St. Joseph. The two kayakers, who are both from Paw Paw, were taken to the Coast Guard Station and released. They did not need medical treatment.
