Set to head to the southern U.S. border this week is Congressman Fred Upton. He told Michigan’s Big Show this week he and his Problem Solvers Caucus will take a close look at the border crisis and discuss possible solutions.

“It’s been a number of years since I’ve been down there, and I know that we’re all disturbed by the images,” Upton said. “We’re confronted with more than 100,000 people trying to come north virtually every month.”

Upton says considering the conditions in the countries the border refugees are fleeing, the solution to the situation is going to have to be comprehensive.

“A number of us have to see firsthand, listening not only to our folks, our U.S. employees at the border — border patrol and others — but also the desperate pleas from the folks who have ventured hundreds if not thousands of miles to come north with their families.”

Upton says he wants to learn more about the situation directly from U.S. personnel at the border. He says the images from the area are “heartbreaking.”
