St. Joseph City Manager John Hodgson is getting a raise. The city commission held a closed session Monday night to give Hodgson his fourth performance evaluation since he was hired, and Mayor Mike Garey tells WSJM News they didn’t score him in any particular categories, noting his excellent work ethic and “what he’s brought to the city.” Garey says the commission felt Hodgson’s starting pay, which hasn’t gone up since he was hired, was too low.

“We amended his contract,” says Garey. “His base salary is now at $150,000,” which is a $25,000 annual raise.

Garey says there were only so many times they could toss out the word “excellent” regarding Hodgson.

“We really talked about John as a person and how he’s worked with staff, how he’s worked with residents, and how he’s worked with the greater community,” says Garey in describing what they discussed with the evaluation.

Even with glowing performance evaluations, there is always something in need of attention. Garey says that would be finding more efficient ways for the city to operate, and those ideas will be bantered about over the next three to four months.
