Preserve the Dunes and Chikaming Open Lands are inviting everyone who wants to learn about protecting the region’s environment to come out to a guided tour at Warren Dunes State Park this month. Set for September 14, the tour will feature information on protecting the dunes, says Preserve the Dunes President Marcy Hamilton, who spoke with WSJM News.

“Our mission is to protect the sand dunes in southwest Michigan, and we believe to be able to do that, people need to understand what the dunes are, how special they are to our area,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton says everyone will gather at a parking lot off Floral Lane west of Red Arrow Highway at 1 p.m. on the 14th. From there will be a hike.

“We will be walking up a sand dune so make sure you wear appropriate shoes and bring some drinking water. It’s kind of a rigorous hike.”

The featured speaker will be the director of Chikaming Open Lands. After the hike and tour, Preserve the Dunes will be giving away a framed print of a dune landscape by local artist, Randall Higdon. Those who want to take part can just show up at the designated time and location. You can find out more right here.
