They’re off. Dozens of people are bicycling across Michigan now on a 275-mile trail from South Haven to Port Huron. They left this morning after dipping the tires in Lake Michigan. South Haven Mayor Scott Smith says the riders are expected to arrive on the shore of Lake Huron on Thursday.

“This was the kickoff of route number-one,” says Smith. “We’re obviously going from South Haven to Port Huron, and this is the inaugural ride. We started with a dip of the tires in Lake Michigan, and there’s a group that will continue all the way over to Port Huron.”

Cyclists will go through forests, farmland, and cities including Kalamazoo, Jackson, Pontiac, and Rochester Hills.
