Around 800 students and faculty members from Andrews University are set to be out and about around southwest Michigan volunteering for non-profits next week. That’s because the third annual Change Day is Tuesday. Change Day coordinator Teela Ruehle tells WSJM News Andrews cancels classes for the day so as many students as possible can take part.

“Last year we had 1,200 students to come and volunteer along with faculty and staff,” Ruehle said. “The community, too, we’ve had some good feedback from them.”

There are a wide variety of projects for the day.

“They can ask for specific skills. Like if you need social work majors or education majors to come into the classrooms and help the teachers for a while, we can do that.”

Ruehle says the university is always looking for more organizations to help out. If you know of one, contract Andrews University. The volunteers this year will be wearing burgundy shirts, and you may see them at some of the 70 sites they’re expected to visit. You can learn more about Change Day right here.
