Over 91-hundred drivers were pulled over around the state in the latest Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement, which ran over the Labor Day period from mid-August until September 2. Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning spokeswoman Kari Arend says there were plenty of people who were enjoying the end of summer a bit too much and not paying attention to the laws.

“Officers around the state made over 9,000 traffic stops and arrested 209 drunk drivers,” says Arend.

Officers from 93 departments around Michigan took part with extra patrols, and they’ll do it again over Thanksgiving. They wrote over 1,100 speeding tickets and made 116 felony arrests.

A trooper from the Michigan State Police Rockford Post stopped a vehicle for traveling 111 mph in a 55 mph zone. The driver had a graduated driver’s license and three unrelated passengers in the car, which is a violation of the state’s graduated driver’s license program for new drivers. In another incident, a trooper from the MSP Niles Post pulled over a driver for suspected impaired driving. The stop resulted in numerous charges including delivery and possession of a controlled substance, providing false identification and a charge of operating while intoxicated.
