Daylight Saving Time ends for the year this weekend. State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer says it’s a good time to put fresh batteries in all of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

“We find ideally with a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector is you usually get a year out of a battery,” says Sehlmeyer. “The idea here is we’re tying it in to Daylight Saving Time, so the time to change your clock is also the time to change your battery.”

Sehlmeyer tells WSJM News 71% of smoke alarm failures are a result of missing, disconnected, or dead batteries. When you fall back, change those batteries.
