The Bissell Pet Foundation wants to get forever homes for as many pets as possible this week with their latest “Empty The Shelters” event. Locally, Van Buren County Animal Control in Hartford and the Al-Van Humane Society in South Haven are taking part. Since the Grand Rapids-based foundation began the effort in collaboration with animal shelters in 2016, nearly 27,000 pets have been adopted. The foundation’s “Empty The Shelters – Holiday Hope” event will be Friday and Saturday at 45 shelters in Michigan and at more than 110 in 22 states across the country. A portion of the adoption costs are covered by the Bissell Pet Foundation to help make it easier for humans to find their new furry best friends.
