The Lincoln Township Board has voted to formally abandon an old, unused section of road near the Grand Mere area. Lincoln Township Supervisor Dick Stauffer tells us it’s a 55 foot long, 66 foot wide former piece of Ice Street. It was unofficially abandoned in 1958 and isn’t connected to any other road. Stauffer says it’s totally unused, and a nearby property owner asked the township to abandon it to un-complicate his own parcels. Now that the township has abandoned the section of Ice Street, the Berrien County Board of Commissioners will consider whether the county road department should take it over. From there, the fate of the non-road would be decided by the county.
