To help residents of Flint offset the negative health effects of lead, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is distributing nutrient-rich food in the community. The department says the mobile food pantry sites distribute foods rich in calcium, vitamin C, and iron. Potatoes, carrots, and onions are among the produce the state is making available. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has provided the Flint mobile food pantries since February 2016 in partnership with the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint. There are several pick up points throughout the city planned through mid-January.
