There is still no sign of a 16-year-old girl from Flushing who was swept off the pier at Holland State Park on New Year’s Day. Eliza Trainer is presumed drowned, and the search has been suspended due to rough conditions on Lake Michigan several times by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Trainer was with a friend when they were swept off around 11 p.m. on January 1. He made it out of the water and ran for help. The two had made the long drive from the Flint area to Holland just to see Lake Michigan for the first time. On a GoFundMe page set up for her funeral expenses, it says Kade Goodrich and Trainer clung to each other in the water for about five minutes trying to get to rocks along the shore. As Goodrich was on a rock and holding her hand trying to pull her up, another wave hit and swept her away.
