The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says one of its K9s was able to track a domestic violence suspect over the weekend. Deputies were called out to a home in the village of Lawrence shortly after midnight Sunday on a report of a man who had assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her mother. While one of the victims was on the phone with 911, the 24-year-old suspect grabbed her phone and broke it, ending the call. By the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, the man had run off. However, thanks to a search by a deputy and K9 Kuno, the suspect was found a short distance away from the house and taken into custody. He was found to be on probation out of Van Buren County and had a personal protection order against him filed by one of the victims. He’s now in the Van Buren County Jail on charges of domestic assault, interfering with 911 communication, and violating a PPO.
