Lincoln Township Beach Closed Due To Erosion

The high water level of Lake Michigan has wiped out Lincoln Township Beach. The township has had to close the park off completely, as the beach has been washed away along with a good chunk of the parking lot. Township Supervisor Dick Stauffer talked to our newsgathering partners at WSBT-22 about the decision to lock up Lincoln Township Beach, maybe forever.

“It’s heartbreaking to see your township impacted this way,” says Stauffer. “From a standpoint of the residents losing the opportunity to go to the beach, that’s depressing.”

Before closing the park and beach to the public, logs were laid down to prevent people from accidentally driving over the edge of the cliff created by the erosion in the parking lot. Lakes Michigan, Huron, and Superior all set record highs for the month of January, and the levels are expected to keep going up this year.
