Set for February 20 is the next Pop Up Giving event of the United Way of Southwest Michigan. Marketing manager Jennifer Tomshack tells WSJM News Pop Up Giving is a way for non-profits to make Shark Tank-like pitches for projects to benefit the community. This time, the non-profits will all be education-related.

“We’ll have three education-related non-profits who will be basically competing to win a donation pot,” Tomshack said. “They’ll pitch their projects to the audience. They’ll have three minutes to do that, and then the audience gets to vote on who they think made the best pitch. Then the winner gets all the proceeds from ticket sales.”

The other two non-profits will get consolation prizes of $250 each. The February 20 event will be at Silver Harbor Brewing Company in St. Joseph. It will have a Pop Tart theme as Kellogg’s has donated Pop Tarts for attendees to snack on. Tickets are available now at the United Way of Southwest Michigan’s website. Past winners of Pop Up Giving events have been the LOGAN Autism Learning Center, Kinexus Group, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Michigan, and The Avenue Family Network.
