A bill from state Representative Brad Paquette aimed at making it easier for people to afford to have a concealed pistol license is pending in a House committee. The Military, Veterans and Homeland Security Committee held a hearing on Paquette’s legislation Tuesday, which would eliminate the renewal fee of $115 paid every five years for a CPL. The freshman Republican from Niles called the renewal fees “financially burdensome” on people’s right to self-defense, saying when added to the costs of the CPL training course, initial licensing fees, and the cost of a firearm, people are paying too much “for the ability to defend themselves.” The committee did not take action on the bill after the hearing. The bill is available at this link.
