Southwest Michigan’s battered coastline is taking another hit. Waves on Lake Michigan are expected to build to as high as 15 to 17 feet from south of Holland down to the Indiana state line today. The National Weather Service says South Haven, St. Joseph, Saugatuck, and New Buffalo will be impacted, with more beach and dune erosion along the shore. Flooding is affecting parts of South Haven, and in Benton Harbor, MDOT has again closed Main Street at Riverview Drive in front of the Whirlpool Riverview campus due to flooding. The problem there is the high level of the St. Joseph River being above the drains on the side of the road.
