As the number of presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Michigan remains at two, state officials have new recommendations for communities to slow the spread of the virus. Governor Whitmer and others are calling on businesses and schools to be flexible and for large gatherings, conferences, concerts and sporting events with more than 100 people to be canceled or postponed.

“If you’re sick, stay at home,” urged Whitmer. “This is for everyone. Think about those who are at risk of severe illness. Think about our most vulnerable populations.”

The main recommendations are for personal responsibility, as Whitmer stressed last evening the importance of people staying home when they’re sick, washing their hands often, and regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. The state’s chief medical executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says things can change quickly with their advice for trying to slow down the coronavirus spread.

“The situation is evolving rapidly,” said Dr. Khaldun. “We will continue to monitor the situation and the number of known cases here in Michigan and make further recommendations as necessary.”

Both of the state’s cases are in metro Detroit.
