Salvation Army Continuing Services, Needs Supplies

The Salvation Army in Benton Harbor says it’s continuing to offer services to those in need around the area. The organization has released the following statement.

 

“The Salvation Army Men’s Shelter in Benton Harbor is continuing its services to the Southwest Michigan region during the current COVID-19 virus crisis.

 

The Men’s Shelter continues to serve up to 38 homeless men per night, and is taking necessary precautions to ensure that the guests are in the safest possible environment.  Staff is dedicated to ensuring that the facilities are as clean as possible and that access to cleaning agents are available to those staying in the shelter.  All residents are encouraged daily to practice proper hygiene.  Any residents who come down sick will be placed in an area separated from the rest of the population, and staff is encouraged to stay home if they are sick.  Those staying at the shelter are assessed daily upon entry to verify their health condition.

 

To ensure the ongoing ability to continue providing the most healthy environment possible, The Salvation Army in in need of the following supplies:  hand sanitizer; disinfecting wipes; bleach; paper towels; liquid hand soap; personal hygiene wipes; gloves; masks; laundry supplies, over the counter fever reducing medication, digital thermometers, and anything else that could be helpful.  Financial donations are also needed to cover the cost of any overtime needed by staff.  Staff that is sick will continue to be compensated during this time.

 

In addition to the men’s shelter, The Salvation Army is continuing to provide other emergency services to families in need through its emergency assistance program.
