Gas prices in Michigan are in free-fall as demand plummets and oil prices continue to sink. Triple-A Michigan says the statewide average has fallen 13¢ in the past week to $1.73, which is down 65¢ in the past month and $1.08 lower than last year. The Benton Harbor/St. Joseph area has the second-lowest prices in the state of the areas surveyed by the auto club at $1.70, just a penny higher than Flint and Grand Rapids.

According to GasBuddy, there are stations in the Detroit area that are down to $1.08 a gallon while South Haven prices are considerably lower than St. Joseph. South Haven’s prices are between $1.24 and $1.30 as of this morning, but the area is not part of Triple-A’s weekly survey.
