Businesses in Van Buren and Cass counties are being advised to screen their employees for COVID-19 each day. The Van Buren and Cass District Health Department’s Danielle Persky tells WSJM News the Screening Checklist for Businesses lays out procedures employers should follow to increase safety.

“We sent it out to just over 400 businesses in both Van Buren and Cass counties,” Persky said. “In that toolkit, they get a screening checklist with specific questions that are suggested for them to ask their employees and to take the temperature of their employees if they have that capability.”

The checklist recommends asking employees about symptoms, whether they’re traveled, and if they’ve had contact with an infected person. Persky says the guide also reiterates many of the prevention guidelines, and offers advice on what to do if someone may have been exposed. The Van Buren and Cass District Health Department is the first health department in southwest Michigan to make such recommendations. Persky says as the two counties see their COVID-19 cases start to climb, the department wanted to be proactive and get ahead of the situation.
