With the goal of both preserving election security and safety during the pandemic, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson testified this week virtually before a U.S. House subcommittee, defending the state’s success in coordinating local elections by mail in May.

“This success demonstrated that it is indeed possible with proper planning, policies, education, and resources to ensure our elections this fall are safe, accurate, and secure,” Benton said.

Benson said Michigan can’t execute a safe mail-in election without help from the federal government. She added up to three million Michiganders may vote by mail this November.
