A new survey of teachers from across the state of Michigan shows the vast majority have many concerns over what a return to school might look like this fall. Paula Herbart is President of the Michigan Education Association, which commissioned the survey of more than 15,000 educators statewide. She spoke with Michigan News Network.

“Our public educators want public health experts to determine what reopening our schools should look like,” Herbart said. “They believe smaller class sizes are a key part of making that happen.”

In addition to concerns over how they can keep students, especially those in elementary schools, properly socially distanced in the classroom, more than 90% of those surveyed say standardized testing of kids, by which teachers are evaluated, should be suspended until normal school operations can resume.
