Berrien RESA has selected Eric Hoppstock to be the next district superintendent. Hoppstock is currently RESA’s assistant superintendent and chief academic officer, and he’ll take over his new role on July 1. The Berrien RESA Board of Education met on Monday morning to discuss its next steps after the board’s first choice for superintendent, Matthew Wandrie of Lapeer, backed out. Hoppstock has worked in education in Berrien County for more than 30 years, starting with RESA in 1987 as a school psychologist. Berrien RESA Board of Education President Cathy Bair says his “in-depth educational background, understanding of ISD-level operations, his management skills and his leadership abilities will serve our staff and constituents well.” Hoppstock will take over for RESA Superintendent Kevin Ivers when Ivers retires at the end of the month.
