Youth Mental Health First Aid 2.0

64% of youth with major depression do not receive any mental health treatment.

– Mental Health America

Spectrum Health Lakeland understands youth today are struggling with high levels of emotional distress from the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe our communities need First Aiders (like you) who are equipped to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and addiction issues, as well as care for ourselves.

The newly released Youth Mental Health First Aid 2.0 teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth.  This 6 ½ -hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem – and help them connect to appropriate care.

Virtual learning available!  First Aiders will complete a 2-hour, self-paced online class, and then participant in a 4 ½ -hour, instructor-led (virtually) on Tuesday, October 6, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm.

There is no charge for the course and registered participants will receive learning materials online.   This course is available to residents who live in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties.
