Palisades Nuclear meeting tonight at LMC

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is meeting tonight (Wednesday) in their first public meeting to discuss the Palisades Nuclear power plant restart. This is part of the agency’s assessment of the plant’s readiness to potentially resume operations.

This is described as an informational session and an opportunity for questions. The open house will start at 6:00 pm. Remarks from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission begin at 6:30 pm. Questions from the public will be taken after until about 8:15 pm.

Palisades entered permanent closure status in May 2022, but in early 2023, Holtec International offered to restart the plant.

The NRC meeting will cover licensing reviews, inspection activities, and environmental review pertaining to the potential restart.

If you can’t attend in person, there is an online option. Online meeting information and the agenda is at the NRC’s website.

The meeting will be held at the Grand Upton Hall, Lake Michigan College, 2755 E. Napier Ave., in Benton Harbor.
