Travel Site Ranks Silver Beach Pizza As Best Pizza In Michigan

Silver Beach Pizza in St. Joseph has received another distinction. The pizza joint below the bluff has been cited by Tripping.com as having the best pizza in the state of Michigan. Tripping is a travel website that only selected one pizza place in each state for the list, noting the importance of variety when it comes to getting a good pie. For Indiana, it says the best pizza can be found at Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza in Indianapolis, and in Illinois, it’s Lou Malnati’s in Chicago. Secretary Of Education To Visit Michigan Friday

U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. has plans to visit Michigan on Friday to discuss the importance of exposing students to manufacturing careers and to highlight school-based health programs. The Detroit Free Press  reports his first stop in Warren will include a discussion with student apprentices at manufacturing
company Proper Tooling’s plastic-injection molding facility. The visit will coincide with Manufacturing Day, an annual celebration of modern manufacturing. King is then scheduled to host a conversation about school-based health services at Northwestern High School in Flint. King first Michigan visit doesn’t include a stop in Detroit. But King says he’s monitoring the city’s school system and remains concerned about low academic performance, an increase in poor-performing charter schools and potential school closures without clear plans for quality alternatives for students.. ...Read Full Story

Restored South Haven Lighthouse To Be Unveiled

The Historical Association of South Haven will unveil the exterior of the city’s lighthouse Friday morning at 9:30. Since early September, work has been done to restore the sentinel, and it’s been surrounded by scaffolding and covered in plastic for the past month. Crews removed roughly 10 coats of paint, made needed repairs, and then put 52 gallons of red paint on. The $300,000 project was funded by the community-wide “Save The Light” initiative sponsored by the Historical Association of South Haven, and was helped by a Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program grant of $60,000. Mihm Enterprises of Hamilton, which also did the work on the St. Joseph lighthouse, restored the structure in South Haven. It will be formally re-dedicated in the spring.. ...Read Full Story
