Foo Fighters, Iggy Pop + Tenacious D Lead Cal Jam 2018 Bill

The Cal Jam festival is returning to California on Oct. 5 at the Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino with the Foo Fighters closing it out once again. Punk legend Iggy Pop will be reassembling his Post Pop Depression album lineup (Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen and Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders) for a special one-off performance. Tenacious D are also among the top-billed acts. Garbage, Greta Van Fleet, Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra, The Front Bottoms, Black Mountain, Deer Tick, Gang Of Youths, Slaves (U.K.), Giant In the Trees, Metz, Yungblud, Thunderpussy, Anna Von Hausswolff, Fea, Kingfish and more are all set to play as well. Police Confirm Death Of “Frightened Rabbit” Frontman Scott Hutchison

Scott Hutchison, frontman of Scottish rock band Frightened Rabbit, has been found dead at a marina on the Firth of Forth in Scotland, police confirmed. Hutchison, 36, sent tweets asking fans “hug your loved ones” the night before he went missing.  The musician, who had been open about his struggle with depression, tweeted Tuesday night, “Be so good to everyone you love. It’s not a given. I’m so annoyed that it’s not. I didn’t live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones.” He added, “I’m away now. Thanks.” Hutchison was reported missing Wednesday after leaving a hotel in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh. Metallica European Stadium Tour Rumored For 2019

Metallica will embark on a European stadium tour in May 2019 running through August 2019; the official announcement is expected in September. The legendary band has just completed a 24-date European tour and is next scheduled to hit the road at the end of the summer for the 2018-2019 North American leg of of its “WorldWired” tour. Metallica also played U.S. stadiums last summer, though the band was mostly indoors for the first leg of its European tour last fall. Rock icons Nine Inch Nails have announced a brand new studio album and a North American tour with The Jesus & Mary Chain for later this year. Family Emergency Forces Postponement Of Billie Joe Armstrong’s “The Longshot” Tour

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been forced to postpone a string of shows with his new band The Longshot due to a bandmate’s family emergency. Armstrong revealed the remainder of the group’s West Coast dates in America had been cancelled, in an Instagram post to fans early on Wednesday. Armstrong debuted The Longshot at a club in his native Oakland, California last month. The band was scheduled to play at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, California on Wednesday night, and had four more dates in Washington, Vancouver and Oregon planned. Huey Lewis Opens Up About Inner Ear Disorder Keeping Him From Singing

In an interview with “Today,” 80s music icon Huey Lewis said he is dealing with the idea of no longer being able to perform onstage after discovering he suffers from Meniere’s disease, a disorder that causes vertigo, ringing in the ears and progressive hearing loss. In April, the 67-year-old canceled all of 40 remaining shows on his tour after he was given the diagnosis. Lewis sought medical treatment after performing in Dallas, when he noticed he was having trouble hearing.  “Even though I can hear you, we can talk, I can talk on the phone — I can’t sing,” Lewis told Jenna Bush Hager. “I can’t hear music. Queen Announce ‘Crown Jewels’ Las Vegas Residency

The members of Queen are set to embark on a residency at the Park Theater at Park MGM in Las Vegas. News of the residency came courtesy of Queen’s official site, where a news release revealed that the band’s current lineup, featuring co-founders guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor alongside frontman Adam Lambert, will perform a 10-date “limited engagement” at the Park between Sept. 1-22. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the public on May 11 through Ticketmaster at 10AM PT; Queen fan club members will be offered access to a special pre-sale via email. “We’re ready to take on the ultimate challenge … to dazzle Vegas!” enthused May via press release.  “I’m so excited to help share ‘The Crown Jewels’ with the Strip,” added Lambert, who’s served as Queen’s singer since 2011. Alice in Chains Debut First New Song in Five Years, ‘The One You Know’

Alice in Chains released their first new song in five years, called “The One You Know.” The single previews the band’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled sixth LP, due out later in 2018.  The upcoming album is Alice in Chains’ third-straight collaboration with producer Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Paul Figueroa. The LP is tentatively due out this summer, though the band have yet to announce a track list or release date. Brian Wilson Postpones Concerts Due To Upcoming Back Surgery

Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson has postponed several upcoming concert appearances. A statement from the 75-year-old musician revealed that upcoming back surgery will force him off the road while he recovers. Wilson described a long history with back pain, and mentions his brother Carl Wilson also suffered from similar issues. Brian’s doctors instructed him that surgery was needed “immediately,” causing the postponement of his concerts scheduled for this month. Only Wilson’s May concerts, which are in the process of being rescheduled, are currently affected by his medical issues. Live Nation Entertainment has acquired the “Rock in Rio” Festival, which in 2017 was the 2nd highest grossing festival in the world, and the largest music festival in South America.  It was estimated to have been attended by more than 700,000 fans from 62 different countries. The legendary festival currently operates biennial events in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Lisbon, Portugal, spanning two long weekends of artist performances. Bruce Springsteen’s Broadway Show Earns Special Tony Award

Springsteen on Broadway, which initially was announced last year as an eight-week residency at the 975-seat Walter Kerr Theatre, has proven wildly successful since making its official bow. Last month, Springsteen added 81 shows to his Broadway docket, extending the show through December and amounting to 236 dates in all. Whitesnake has been forced to postpone the release of their new album until 2019 due to “technical difficulties.” The new album was originally promised for this spring and then was moved to summer. Bonnie Raitt Drops Out Of First Leg Of James Taylor Tour Due To Unspecified Health Issue

Bonnie Raitt has pulled out of the first leg of her U.S. tour with James Taylor due to an unspecified “medical situation” that requires surgery. Raitt on Monday posted a statement on her Facebook page apologizing to fans and saying the medical issue arose following her annual physical. She says the prognosis is “good” and a full recovery is expected. Raitt, 68, says she expects to rejoin Taylor for his tour’s second leg in June and a European tour in July. Ozzy Osbourne launched his farewell tour at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Jacksonville, FL on April 27.  Osbourne’s 14-song set opened with his hit from 1983 “Bark At The Moon”, alongside a lineup that included guitarist Zakk Wylde, bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson, drummer Tommy Clufetos and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda Releases “About You” Video

Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda has released a music video for the song “About You”, taken from his upcoming solo album “Post Traumatic”. The track is a collaboration with producer blackbear, and the accompanying clip was directed by Shinoda. Shinoda spoke about the songwriting process for “Post Traumatic”, which is due on June 15. He explained: “It started in a really dark place. In the beginning, I wasn’t leaving my house. It felt very claustrophobic, having lost one of my closest friends and collaborators.” Dealing with his own grief over Chester Bennington‘s suicide last summer, saying: “I had terrible days, and now I have less bad days. The 5th Annual “Light Up the Blues” event benefitting Autism Speaks took place on Saturday night at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Steven Stills and his wife Kristen, who have a college-age son with autism. The night featured a number of special collaborations featuring Stills, his longtime musical collaborator Neil Young, members of the late Tom Petty’s backing band The Heartbreakers, Sheryl Crow and more. Judas Priest and Deep Purple will unite for a co-headlining North American tour. The 25-date tour begins August 21st in Cincinnati and winds up on September 30th in Wheatland, California. General public tickets go on sale Friday, April 27th at 10 a.m.  Deep Purple released their 20th studio album, Infinite in 2017. The veteran rockers supported the LP on a world tour that stretched from last May through December.  Judas Priest issued their 18th studio project, Firepower, in March. Lynyrd Skynyrd Announces Their Final Show

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s last concert will be a hometown affair. On April 20, the band revealed they will play one last date to end their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour: a Sept. 2 date at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla., the city where the band was formed. The band broke the news at the stadium where the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars play during the team’s annual State of the Franchise event. Kid Rock and Jason Aldean are slated as the opening acts, and others will be announced at a later date. It will be the first concert at the stadium since 2015. For the upcoming second weekend of the Coachella Music Festival, X Japan will be making another appearance, and this time Marilyn Manson will be hitting the stage alongside the Japanese metal outfit. “I am happy to join my great friend @yoshikiofficial and XJapan at Coachella on Saturday the 21st for a special performance,” the shock rocker wrote on Instagram.  At the opening weekend of Coachella last week, X Japan made a rare appearance at festival. Walmart Refuses To Carry Stryper’s New Album, ‘God Damn Evil’

Leading national retail chain Walmart has refused to carry STRYPER’s upcoming 10th studio LP, “God Damn Evil”.  Many other Christian retail chains have also objected to the title of the band’s album, and are declining to carry “God Damn Evil” in their stores as well. Stryper frontman Michael Sweet said in a statement, “We’re disappointed. Stryper has always been about making people think outside the box. Our new album title, ‘God Damn Evil’, is a statement that’s needed in our society. Organizers have announced the initial details for the 2019 Monsters of Rock Cruise. Entering its ninth year of operation, veteran acts Queensryche, Tesla, Tom Keifer, and Extreme will be headlining the cruise. The nominees for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards have been announced, and the primary rock acts in contention this year are Guns N’ Roses and Linkin Park. Guns N’ Roses have been nominated largely based off their touring, with nods for Top Touring Artist, where they face competition from Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and U2, and Top Rock Tour, where Coldplay and U2 are the competition. Linkin Park has been nominated for Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Album for One More Light, and Top Rock Song for “Heavy,” the track they recorded with pop singer Kiiara. In the Top Rock Artist category, they face off against Imagine Dragons, Portugal. The Man, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Twenty One Pilots. Organizers of the 2nd Annual Bourbon & Beyond Festival have revealed the first names that will be appearing at this year’s event. The world’s largest celebration on music, food and bourbon will take place at Champions Park in Louisville, Kentucky, on September 22 and 23. Robert Plant And The Sensational Space Shifters, Lenny Kravitz, Counting Crows, David Byrne, Gov’t Mule, Blackberry Smoke, Don Felder and Sting have all been confirmed.  The festival has been produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, along with culinary curator Edward Lee and bourbon expert Fred Minnick, who will showcase 24 bourbons. Attendees will be able to find vintage bourbons dating as far back as the 1930s. Billie Joe Armstong’s New Band “The Longshot” Make Their Live Debut

Billie Joe Armstrong’s new band The Longshot made their debut live appearance over the weekend, after releasing their debut EP last week. While Green Day are currently taking time off since the success of 2016’s Revolution Radio‘ and last year’s greatest hits compilation ‘God’s Favourite Band‘, Armstrong is going back to his punk roots for his new band. The Longshot’s debut performance came on Saturday night at Oakland’s 1-2-3-4 Go! Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2018 Induction Ceremony Highlights

Veteran bands Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Cars and The Moody Blues, as well as the late singer Nina Simone, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Saturday night. In order to be eligible for this honor, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of induction. The 2018 nominees all released their first official recordings before 1992.  Presenters at this weekend’s Public Hall gala included Mary J. Huey Lewis Cancels 2018 Shows Due To Hearing Loss

Huey Lewis and the News will no longer tour for the rest of the year after frontman Huey Lewis announced that he is suffering from hearing loss. The 67-year-old performer revealed that the hearing loss began two and a half months ago and he is having trouble hearing music. Huey said in a statement, “two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing. Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing. I can’t hear music well enough to sing. The lower frequencies distort violently making it impossible to find pitch. Therefore the only prudent thing to do is cancel all future shows.”  Lewis revealed that he has visited several experts while trying to find an answer and doctors believe he has Meniere’s disease and can’t perform again until he improves.  Lewis continued, “Needless to say, I feel horrible about this and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who’ve already bought tickets and were planning to come see us. Alice In Chains New Album Expected This Summer

Alice in Chains’ sixth album is nearing completion and will be released sometime this summer, this according to guitarist Jerry Cantrell.  The follow-up to 2013’s The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here should arrive while the band is on tour from April 28 to Sept. 15. “It’s not that we were keeping it a secret — we just didn’t want to say a whole lot about it until we had something to say,” Cantrell said in a new interview. The documentary film “Scream for Me Sarajevo” will be released beginning May 10 in select theaters across the US and Canada, it was announced on Wednesday. “Scream for Me Sarajevo” is the “astonishing true story of one of the most unlikely rock concerts ever staged, in a city under siege with mortars and grenades raining down on civilians, killing indiscriminately.” The 1994 concert features global rock star Bruce Dickinson and his band Skunkworks who performed in the midst of the siege of Sarajevo. Featuring footage from the historic gig, the film also features concertgoers who made it to the show despite the atrocities going on around them in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. U2’s “The Claw” Will Become A Landmark At Utah Aquarium

In 2009, U2 went on their ambitious “360º tour” featuring a massive stage design that was known as “The Claw.”  Now one of these 165-foot, 190-ton “claws” will be on display at Draper, Utah’s Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. “We are excited to bring this iconic monument to its permanent home in Utah,” LLPA founder and CEO Brent Anderson said in a statement. “This landmark will shine a light on our mission to inspire people to explore, discover, and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems.” A mock-up of the installation, as well as LLPA’s new expansion, can be seen at their website. System Of A Down Unveil First U.S. Shows Since 2015

System of a Down has announced five tour dates, marking the band’s first U.S. shows since 2015. The five shows all take place in October and include a headline performance at the Aftershock Festival in San Bernardino, Calif., alongside Deftones, Alice in Chains, Godsmack and more.  The dates are the first U.S. shows for the band since 2015’s Wake Up The Souls Tour, which wrapped at the Forum in their hometown of Los Angeles. Lindsey Buckingham Leaves Fleetwood Mac; Mike Campbell And Neil Finn Join The Group

Lindsey Buckingham’s tenure with Fleetwood Mac has apparently come to an end, and he has parted ways with the band 22 years after their classic lineup reunited.  After his second tenure with the band, he’ll be replaced on an upcoming tour by Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House. Rolling Stone is reporting that Buckingham was fired over a disagreement regarding the tour. “We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family,” the band said in a statement. “With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalog of songs. Kid Rock’s 11th studio album, Sweet Southern Sugar, is keeping him on the road as he’s just announced another round of U.S. tour dates in 2018. Dream Theater To Start Work On New Album In June

According to frontman James LaBrie, Dream Theater will gather in the studio to start work on their 14th album in a couple of months. The band hope the follow-up to 2016’s The Astonishing will be released early next year. “We’re hoping that the album will be out, let’s say, February of 2019. And then we’re looking, at this point, that we’d start the next world tour next March.” Last year LaBrie had stated in n interview “We all pretty much know where we want to go with the next album, but we have a clear, clear vision of what it needs to be in direction, where we want to take it. Jeff Beck’s long career has been made into a documentary scheduled for release on DVD next month. Due in stores May 18, Still on the Run: The Jeff Beck Story will offer a comprehensive overview of “the history of a musical maverick and true innovator” and features interviews with Beck as well some of his peers and collaborators, including Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, David Gilmour, Ronnie Wood, Slash and Joe Perry. The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ Will Return To Theaters In July

The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” is to show in theaters across North America, the UK and Ireland starting July in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary. The 1968 animated movie has been restored in 4K digital resolution, according to an official announcement, although given “the delicate nature” of the hand-drawn artwork, no automated software was used in the digital clean-up. “Yellow Submarine,,” based on the song of the same name by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, tells a fantastic tale featuring Beatles songs including “Eleanor Rigby,” “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and “All You Need Is Love.” Participating theaters and dates have yet to be revealed, but organizers say screenings will begin July 8 in the UK, Ireland and North America. Ann Wilson’s next solo release has a brand new title and a new famous name she’s collaborating with. Wilson’s collection of covers, previously titled Songs for the Living Vol. 1, will now instead be called Immortal. Godsmack Releases ‘Bulletproof” Music Video

Godsmack premiered the official music video for “Bulletproof,” the lead single from the multi-platinum band’s upcoming “When Legends Rise” album that’s due out April 27 (the band’s seventh studio album and their first album in four years.)  The video, directed by filmmaker Troy Smith, satirically documents the band’s quest to make a new video.
