A border wall could be high on the list of topics that President Donald Trump talks about in his State of the Union address tonight. University of Michigan political expert Aaron Kall says Trump could tease an emergency declaration for a border wall with another government shutdown looming.
“He’ll definitely make his best case, but at the same time, this is an issue that has no easy solution,” says Kall. “People have thought about it, he’s given previous speeches on it, and even though a lot of people are watching, it’s hard to imagine an hour or speech can change any minds.”
Kall does expect President Trump to talk about more money for health care, the opioid crisis and infrastructure. He says the best State of the Union addresses of the past 50 years were by Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Kall is the author of the book “The State of the Union is… Memorable Addresses of the Last 50 Years.”
