Senator Kim LaSata is no fan of a major part of Governor Whitmer’s budget proposal.
“Southwest Michigan families can’t afford a 45¢ gas tax increase,” says the Berrien County Republican. Senator LaSata is on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which will be working on the budget over the next few months. LaSata says she does agree with the Democratic governor that Michigan faces many tough challenges, and despite the opposition to the fuel tax hike, she’s optimistic.
“I am confident that we can put together a budget that addresses our shared priorities while limiting the impact on our hard-working families and job providers,” LaSata continued in a statement from her office. That statement does not indicate from where she thinks the money to fix the roads should be drawn.
