City commissioners in Benton Harbor will be asked to consider legislation to help reduce incidents of crime in the community. During a meeting this week, City Manager Ellis Mitchell said with young people stuck at home for months due to COVID-19, some have gotten restless.
“They are becoming their own problem, and they’re becoming a problem to the neighborhoods, and as Director McGinnis said, we have been working on a plan,” Mitchell said.
Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety Director Dan McGinnis said he’s been talking with Mitchell, and some 24 hour stores that are a partial cause of the issue. The city commission’s Legislative Committee will be talking about ordinance ideas to help address the issue.
