The Krasl Art Center is planning its next PechaKucha event for May 22 at The Inn at Harbor Shores.
Krasl Events Director Jamie Balkin tells us they’ve been holding these engagements for ten years now. PechaKucha is a way to hear several interesting stories in a relatively short amount of time.
“Pachacucha is Japanese for chit chat, and it’s an evening of storytelling,” Balkin said. “So it is 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide. So telling your story in six minutes and 40 seconds.”
Balkin says they welcome speakers from St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, and it’s really a lot of fun.
“It can be any story you’d like. It could be about something creative. It could be about a trip you’ve taken. We recruit members of the community to come share their stories.”
PechaKucha began as nighttime get-togethers in Tokyo in 2003 by two architects. Since then, three million people have attended PechaKucha events worldwide. The idea is to “talk less, show more.”
Balkin says the May 22 event will start at 7 p.m. and tickets are $5. You can get them in advance or at the door.
