Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Would you know if you or someone else was having a heart attack?
There are heart attack signs that you hear about — chest pain, shortness of breath, arm pain, or an ache in your back or jaw or neck radiating to your jaw. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Chief Medical Officer Dr. James Grant says there are also some silent heart attack symptoms.
“You’re very tired,” Grant said. “You’re very tired all the time. One of the greatest things you’ll see in emergency departments when people come in complaining, ‘I’ve got this bad indigestion that just won’t go away.’ That’s a really telltale sign.”
Grant says other signs are flu-like symptoms, dizziness, a cold sweat, and arm pain. If you’re not sure, go to the emergency room.
