Two people were arrested following a narcotics investigation in Cass County that led to the seizure of methamphetamine and other evidence of drug distribution.

The Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team executed a search warrant February 25 in the 12000 block of M-60 Highway in Newberg Township after what authorities called a month-long investigation. Detectives say they seized more than 35 grams of crystal methamphetamine, more than a dozen Suboxone strips, a stolen replica firearm, and devices used to weigh narcotics. Authorities say the search and arrests were conducted with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Cass County Animal Control, and the MSP Niles Post.

A 52-year-old Newberg Township man was arrested and lodged in the Cass County Jail on charges including receiving and concealing stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, and two outstanding felony warrants from St. Joseph County. Authorities also arrested a 50-year-old Three Rivers woman who was on parole for drug offenses. She was lodged in the Cass County Jail on charges including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine as a second offense, maintaining a drug vehicle as a second offense, possession of a barbiturate or analogue as a second offense, and a parole violation.

State police say fatal drug overdoses claim more lives each year in Southwest Michigan than fatal car crashes and homicides combined. Anyone seeking information about substance use treatment can contact Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health at 800-781-0353.
