Wolfgang Van Halen proved he’s never gonna let you down on April Fools’ Day.
The Mammoth frontman was playing a show in Cincinnati on Wednesday when he took a moment to introduce a song with a seemingly earnest speech.
“I always said never say never,” Wolf began. “I don’t know if I’m gonna keep doing this, maybe this can just be our little secret. But I think there’s some people out there that deserve this, and I think it could be really fun.”
While some in the audience surely thought Wolf might be teasing a Van Halen song in honor of his father, the late Eddie Van Halen, he instead launched into the much-memed Rick Astley hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
After finishing up the chorus, Wolf then wished the crowd a happy April Fools’ Day before introducing the actual next song, the Mammoth track “Don’t Back Down.” He proceeded to play the “Never Gonna Give You Up” intro two more times before finally playing “Don’t Back Down” for real.
Wolf posted footage of the moment on his Instagram along with the caption, “A serious talk in Cincinnati this evening.”
Wolf is currently on tour in support of Mammoth’s latest album, 2025’s The End. The trek includes dates opening for Bush.
