Train service between Chicago and Grand Rapids has resumed after flood damage forced a shutdown over the weekend near Coloma.
CSX crews reopened the line Monday afternoon after repairing a washout that developed Saturday, when heavy rain washed away the ground beneath the tracks, leaving sections temporarily suspended in mid-air. Freight traffic and Amtrak service were halted as a result.
Crews worked to rebuild the track bed and tested the repairs by running locomotives through the area to ensure stability. The line is now back open, but trains are moving slowly—around 10 miles per hour—while crews continue to monitor conditions and complete additional reinforcement work.
