The city of South Haven is gearing up for the summer with about 60 additional workers hired for seasonal positions including lifeguards, bridge tenders, dock hands, parking enforcement officers, and parks staff.
The city says lifeguards will begin staffing South Beach starting Memorial Day, while beach enforcement attendants will start work May 15 at all seven city beaches and access points. Paid beach parking enforcement will also begin May 15 and continue through September 15.
The city is reminding visitors that South Beach will be the only guarded beach and is urging beachgoers to follow instructions from lifeguards and enforcement attendants. Beach wheelchairs and accessibility transfer stations will again be available at South and North beaches.
Meanwhile, Dyckman Bridge tenders will resume seasonal operations with scheduled openings on the hour and half-hour, and parks and cemetery crews are preparing public spaces for increased summer activity.
The city is still accepting applications for lifeguard and beach enforcement positions. The application can be found on its website.
