Angel Martínez hit a tiebreaking triple in the 10th inning, José Ramírez followed with an RBI double and the Cleveland Guardians beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 3-2. Cleveland tied it at 1 in the ninth when Daniel Schneemann scored on Patrick Bailey’s groundout. Martínez led off the 10th with a triple against reliever Tyler Holton that scored automatic runner Brayan Rocchio, giving the Guardians a 2-1 lead. Ramírez lined a double to bring home Martínez. The Tigers pulled to 3-2 in the bottom half when automatic runner Wenceel Pérez scored from second on Zach McKinstry’s single. Cade Smith then retired the final three batters for his 16th save. Detroit has lost five straight games and 13 of 15.
Brewers 5, Cubs 2 – Kyle Harrison strikes out 11 as Brewers sweep sloppy Cubs with 5-0 win
Kyle Harrison struck out 11 in seven dominant innings and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the sloppy Chicago Cubs 5-0 to sweep the first series this season between the NL Central rivals. David Hamilton had three hits and scored two runs as division-leading Milwaukee improved to 14-4 in its last 18 games. Jake Bauers extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games with an RBI single in the third. Harrison allowed two hits and walked one in his fourth career game with double-digit strikeouts. Harrison and Hamilton were acquired by Milwaukee in a February trade with Boston that sent third baseman Caleb Durbin to the Red Sox.
Mariners 5, White Sox 4 – Jhonny Pereda hits 1st MLB home run as Mariners beat White Sox 5-4
Jhonny Pereda hit his first MLB homer, Randy Arozarena also went deep and scored three runs, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4. Pereda, who was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma last week when AL MVP runner-up Cal Raleigh was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain, turned on a hanging breaking ball from White Sox lefty Sean Newcomb in the seventh inning for a 392-foot homer into Seattle’s bullpen. The backup catcher went 136 plate appearances before hitting his first home run in the major leagues.

NFL – Aaron Rodgers says the 2026 NFL season will be his last: ‘This is it’
Aaron Rodgers says his 22nd season in the NFL will be his last. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said “this is it” when asked Wednesday if he will retire at the end of the 2026 season. The 42-year-old did not expand on why he came to that conclusion. Rodgers signed a one-year deal to return to the Steelers just before the start of organized team activities. The four-time NFL MVP says the hiring of Mike McCarthy as coach played a factor in his decision to return to the Steelers after helping lead the club to the AFC North title last season.
NCAAFB – As CFP barrels toward 24 teams, questions: Who’s paying , and how much?
The Big Ten is pushing to expand the College Football Playoff to 24 teams, but the question is who will televise it. Fox supports the idea, but concerns remain about how much networks will pay for games involving less popular teams. The current ESPN deal is worth $7.8 billion over six seasons. The Southeastern Conference prefers a 16-team playoff, while the Big Ten has support from the Atlantic Coast and Big 12 conferences for 24 teams. A larger playoff could eliminate conference title games, affecting revenue. The NFL’s dominance in viewership is a factor in negotiations.
PWHL – Montreal Victoire win their first PWHL title, beating Ottawa 4-0 in Game 4
Abby Roque scored twice, Ann-Renée Desbiens made 23 saves and the Montreal Victoire won their first PWHL title, beating the Ottawa Charge 4-0 on Wednesday night in Game 4 of the Walter Cup Finals. Maggie Flaherty and Lina Ljungblom also scored. Montreal opened the best-of-five series at home with two overtime victories, then fell 2-1 at Ottawa on Monday night. Home teams had won the last five finals games. The Minnesota Frost won the first two titles in league history, beating Ottawa in four games last year in the championship series. Montreal beat Minnesota in the semifinals this season. Montreal captain Marie-Philip Poulin was honored as the playoff MVP. She tied for the postseason lead with eight points on two goals and six assists.
