The GhostLight Theater in Benton Harbor is preparing for its final show of the season.
GhostLight founder and manager Paul Mow tells us “The Thanksgiving Play” is a satirical take on Thanksgiving lore written by Larissa Fasthorse. It’ll be a lighthearted and thoughtful way to close out the year.
“Three very well-meaning educators that are trying to put on a Thanksgiving type holiday pageant and they’re doing their best to do something representative of indigenous people, but they keep stepping in with all of our American folklore,” Mow said.
Playwright Fasthorse puts a humorous spin on Thanksgiving, drawing from her Native American background. Mow says there will also be a talkback session after the show with representatives of the Pokagon Band.
Mow says this show will close out what’s been a fantastic season.
“I’d like to end with a little bit of a light-hearted effort in a comedy like The Thanksgiving Play. But from Rocky Horror to The Last Five Years to Clyde, it’s been a terrific season. It’s been our biggest season yet.”
The Thanksgiving Play opens next Thursday and will run each weekend through November 23. Tickets are available now.
Mow says the GhostLight is already deep into planning its next season. Everyone can learn more at “Revel & Reveal — A Season Announcement Fundraising Event” set for December 4. Tickets are also available for that engagement.
