Mich 91, Purdue 80 – Elliot Cadeau scores 17 and No. 1 Michigan uses strong interior game to beat up No. 7 Purdue
Elliot Cadeau scored 14 of his 17 in the second half, and Aday Mara added 10 points and 11 rebounds to send No. 1 Michigan past No. 7 Purdue 91-80. Trey McKinney, Yaxel Lendeborg and L.J. Cason each had 13 points as the Wolverines won their 11th in straight. The win came one day after Michigan moved into the nation’s top spot for the first time since January 2013. Trey Kaufman-Renn scored a season high 27 points to lead Boilermakers on a night most of his teammates struggled. Purdue had won four straight but spent most of the game playing catch-up after Michigan built an early double-digit lead.
MSU 82, UCLA 59 – Jeremy Fears Jr. leads No. 15 Michigan State to 82-59 win over UCLA
Jeremy Fears Jr. had 16 points and 10 assists, leading No. 15 Michigan State to an 82-59 victory over UCLA. The Spartans bounced back with a strong performance after losing three of four games and falling five spots in the AP Top 25 this week. Fears scored 11 in the first half to help MSU build a 20-point advantage. The Bruins have lost two straight games after winning five of six. Tyler Bilodeau had 22 points and Skyy Clark scored 12.

NBA – Detroit’s stunning surge: Pistons enter post-All-Star play with the best record
The Detroit Pistons have surged from years of misery to the NBA’s best record as play resumes after the All-Star break. Detroit sits at 40-13 and barely leads Oklahoma City when games resume Thursday. The Pistons avoid long skids and rarely lose big. They also beat strong teams more than anyone. Cade Cunningham says the team stays focused and keeps building. History suggests the title picture centers on Detroit, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Boston, Denver and New York. Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lead the scoring race. Injuries and the 65-game rule shake up awards.
NCAAFB – Judge grants hearing, ex-Michigan coach Moore may have had rights violated
A judge on Tuesday granted a request for a hearing to learn more about the investigation that led to charges against former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, who was arrested soon after he was fired due to his relationship with his executive assistant. Judge J. Cedric Simpson expressed concerns a detective didn’t disclose Moore had a employer-employee relationship with the woman when a magistrate authorized a warrant for his arrest. Moore was charged with felony home invasion, stalking and illegal entry. His lawyer is trying to get the case dismissed.

Japanese pair upstage ‘Blade Angels,’
Ami Nakai and Japanese teammate Kaori Sakamoto upstaged Alysa Liu and the rest of the “Blade Angels” from the U.S. to take the lead after the short program in the women’s figure skating competition at the Milan Cortina Olympics. Nakai rode her opening triple axel to a career-best 78.71 points while Sakamoto was right behind with 77.23. Liu was third with 76.59 to keep within range of the top step of the podium. Germany swept the medals in the two-man bobsled race. Italy’s Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini and Michele Malfatti beat U.S. world record-holders Casey Dawson, Emery Lehman and Ethan Cepuran to win the men’s team pursuit gold in speedskating.
Germany sweep in two-man bobsled
Germany swept the medals in the two-man bobsled race in a show of absolute dominance. It was the second Olympic sweep in bobsled history; the other was by the Germans, also in two-man, at the Beijing Games four years ago. And leading the way was Johannes Lochner, who got his first gold medal while posting the biggest Olympic two-man winning margin in nearly a half-century. The U.S. was the closest to thwarting the sweep; Frank Del Duca and Josh Williamson were fourth.
Snow postpones women’s slopestyle snowboarding
The Olympic final for women’s snowboarding slopestyle was scrubbed off Tuesday’s schedule due to a heavy snowstorm in Livigno. The slopestyle final was scheduled to start at 1 p.m. local time, but organizers said it was called off. A new date for the final has not been announced. It delays New Zealander Zoi Sadowski-Synnott’s attempt at a repeat. She qualified first on Sunday — an opening round that was moved up a day because of the storms rolling in.
