If you see or hear fire and emergency activity near South Bend’s airport this morning, don’t be alarmed. It’s just live fire training.
The South Bend International Airport has announced they will conduct their annual live fire training exercise Wednesday morning as part of federally required safety procedures.
The training will take place from approximately 8 a.m. to noon at a designated facility on the northwest corner of the airfield and will not impact flight operations. The exercise is required by the Federal Aviation Administration for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting teams and involves controlled live burns to simulate emergency conditions.
Airport officials say the training ensures firefighters remain prepared to respond quickly and effectively to fuel-related fires, maintaining safety standards for passengers and airport operations.
