There is a teenage metal band called ‘Black Leaves of Envy’ who were banned by their home city of Cornwall, England from playing in their rehearsal space. So Dave Grohl wrote an open letter to the city in support of the band.

On March 20th, an article appeared in the Plymouth Herald about the ban placed on Black Leaves of Envy by the city of Cornwall. According to the article, the band has been asked to keep their volume at 30 to 40 decibels which is roughly the sound of a whisper. The band said that there is only one neighbor close by, who hasn’t complained, and the next closest neighbor is a field away.

This is where Black Leaves of Envy decided to write to Dave Grohl, asking for his support. Grohl, inching his way closer and closer to Ultimate Badassary, decided to write an open letter to the city of Cornwall. In the letter, Grohl said:

For the sake of your local band Black Leaves of Envy, and for the generations of young musicians that they may eventually inspire, I ask that you reconsider the restrictions put upon the volume of their private rehearsal space. I believe that in doing so, you will be sending a message that Cornwall is not only a home to music and the arts, but a place that encourages children to follow their dreams in a world where anything is possible.
