Michigan State Police say they’ll be focusing on keeping the state’s roadways free of dangerous and impaired drivers over the Independence Day weekend. The effort is being called “Operation CARE.”

“Which stands for Combined Accident Reduction Effort,” says Lieutenant Dale Hinz of the Paw Paw post. “Our goal is to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries during this peak travel weekend.”

He says troopers will be working overtime.

“You’ll see a lot more Michigan State Police troopers on the roads, especially on the freeways and peak travel roadways.”

Extra patrols run through Monday night.
