State Police Ask Drivers To Help Prevent Brush Fires

Michigan State Police are asking drivers to be careful about what they throw out of their car windows in the state’s current dry weather. Much of Michigan is experiencing a drought, and MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw says smokers, in particular, are reminded that tossing their butts out the window could cause a brush fire.

“We see a lot of these brush fires, they kind of break out, and some of them can get pretty big,” Shaw said.

Shaw says a cigarette butt thrown into some dry grass could lead to big problems. He also reminds everyone that littering could very well get you a fine.
