MDOT Not Expecting Hot Weather To Impact Roads

The heat wave being experienced by southwest Michigan this weekend is not considered a problem by the Michigan Department of Transportation. Spokesperson Nick Schirripa says the heat probably won’t cause road problems unless there’s a quick plummet in the temperature.

“The biggest heat issue we really have is when joints pop,” Schirripa said. “We haven’t had any yet, but that’s kind of our heat issue, especially when you get several hot days, and then a cool day.”

However, Schirripa says that’s not expected to happen. He adds the heat has not affected the expected completion date for any major projects underway this summer.
