Gas prices have fallen back below $2 a gallon in South Haven, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids, which is something that Michiganders haven’t seen during the summertime for more than a decade. GasBuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan says fill up soon because the savings may not be around for long.

“Just because the wholesale price of gasoline has only dropped about a penny and a half in the past week, while the retail price is down about 20 cents,” notes the oil market analyst. He says unless there is a major hurricane or some other calamity that puts a crimp in the oil pipeline, there is nothing to keep prices from falling even lower this fall.

“Lower prices should persist, by and large, for much of the rest of the year. We could be ringing in the new year with a gas price in West Michigan in the mid-one-dollar range.”

DeHaan says gas and crude stocks remain at record levels.
