Golf icon Arnold Palmer has died at the age of 87. Palmer won seven majors during his career and became one of the most famous golfers and athletes in history during his career. He played a round at Harbor Shores in 2010 to commemorate the opening of the Jack Nicklaus course, joined by Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Tom Watson on August 10 of that year. CBS Sports covered the event as part of a 30-minute package aired nationally the next month during its coverage of The Masters.

Palmer and Nicklaus became friends after initially being rivals on the links, and their friendship lasted over a half-century. He’s credited with transforming golf and helping to popularize it for more than just country club elites. Palmer died Sunday, September 25 in Pittsburgh.
