State Senator John Proos says he had a bit of a hard time watching Sunday night’s presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. He tells Michael Patrick Shiels and “Michigan’s Big Show” that the discussion lacked substance.

“Some of the international discussion was substantive, I give them both credit for actually diving into some of those issues that matter,” said Proos. “But the insults were laced throughout the entire debate.”

And if you’re like him and tried watching with your kids, you might have been a bit uncomfortable.

“My 10-year-old had to go to bed,” he said. “I had to send her to bed rather than watching it and trying to explain what all this sexual assault discussion was about.”

Proos has not come out and denounced Trump’s comments on believing he’s got a free pass to sexually assault women just because of his celebrity status. Those remarks were made in 2005 to entertainment reporter Billy Bush, and have resulted in Bush being suspended indefinitely from NBC’s “Today” show. Congressman Fred Upton, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, Attorney General Bill Schuette, and Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel have all condemned the comments.
